Featured Collection - The Color Block

The creation of my site has always been to showcase my work in a format that gave me complete control of my imagery. Part of that control was showcasing my images in an uncompromising format that was much larger than what was typically available on social media platforms.

This also allowed me to group my imagery in any way that I wanted and for the longest time I’ve displayed my images solely based on location. This served as a way for me to look back at the places I’ve been fortunate enough to visit but also a way to highlight my favorite images from those locations that I could share with others.

However, last year I started experimenting with work that pushed the boundaries of colors for an image and indirectly this started to form a new collection of photographs.

The Start of The Color Block:

I started to really enjoy the look and feel of these new images. They were fun, bright, and popped off the screen. These images had a lot of contrast to them and the different colors I felt worked well together. But it was not until I printed them for myself in the format I wanted, as an acrylic print, that I was sold that these had to be their own collection.

Now that I could see these images in person and the fact that they held up on their own I decided to separate them out and form The Color Block. This would be the first collection of images not based on location and I’m very excited about it.

With every collection a lot of time and effort goes into shooting them. For much of my street work it’s hours upon hours of walking and exploring and taking notice of my environment and the people within them. This can be local or even a trip across the world by myself such as with my Hong Kong imagery. However, I enjoy these long hours of solitude with my camera. It’s been a way to disconnect while at the same time gaining a deeper appreciate for the world around me. There is also an excitement of what I may discover but also the pressure of pushing my photography forward. Sometimes I come back with an image or two that I’m happy with and other times I may not get anything. But this is the commitment I’ve made to my photography to go out there and keep shooting.

With The Color Block collection it requires the same amount of commitment and has allowed me to photograph familiar areas with a new perspective. My hope is that I can push my eye in both styles of photography and offer a variety of interesting work for myself and for those that appreciate my photography.

Final Thoughts:

When I look at this new collection it makes me think about other art that I gravitate towards which is contemporary and fun artwork. It has always been my goal to produce work in this direction and I feel that this new collection represents that desire. I’ve already started to think of new ways to push this style further along with my other street imagery and look forward to seeing these up in homes and offices.
